So for those of you who used to follow my personal blog, this post is not new. I felt that it needed to find a home here though, along with other projects I undertake. Another reason, I have been SUPER busy, and felt that I needed to make a post. This was simply a matter of copying and pasting off of my old blog. Enjoy, for those of you who have not seen this post yet.
About a year ago I had wanted to give my daughters room a makeover. It was a pretty sad looking room. I was thinking on a theme and decided to take a photo prop that I had (a little vintage doll carriage that Maiya loves) and work around that to make her room girly vintage. It was a blast finding things that would piece the look together.
This is the carriage that inspired it all:
I took Maiya out for a little shoot to match her room, and the pic above of the carriage ended up going on her nightstand.
This is the picture that I chose from the shoot to be featured on her wall.
This picture frame I already owned, but it was in storage. I decided to give it a vintage look in the colour of the room decor. So being in a rush at the time, I didn't bother prepping it. I just sprayed it with the dusty blue spray paint. It ended up bubbling and looking weird, and I was disappointed....UNTIL I realized that it looked fabulous that way with the picture I had of Maiya!
I had a nightstand that was small and cute. I had bought it off the swap n' buy for $5.
I thought it would look better in white for the look of the room. I also added a small photo of the bear in the carriage to go on the nightstand. The frame was from the dollar store and I spray painted it white. I got the cute little vintage clock from the thrift store for $3. It was so perfect for the look. The little basket underneath is also from the thrift store for $2. I loved how it looked like a bucket from a well, that's where she keeps a few books for night reading.
I got this headboard for free off the swap n buy (thank you Kim). It was already cute and perfect for the look,
but I decided to spray it white (except for the light brown at the top which I liked like that). You`ll see a pic in the final picture, I didn`t take a seperate after photo.
I got this cute dresser from the swap n' buy for $10 and I just hadn`t done anything with yet, but it had major potential. It was forest green with brown accents (drawers, doors). I forgot to take a before pic until I already had the doors off and the drawers out, so this is the best before pic I've got.
I decided to spray the dresser and knobs blue and the doors and drawers white. You will see the after in the final pic as I did not take an individual after pic.
Here is my next little addition to the room. I unfortunately did not take a before pic. I got this spicerack that I thought was pretty hideous from a white elephant gift game and it was in my "getting rid of" bag. It was an old run down looking brown wood with black accents. You could see through the "screen" as well. I then saw it for the potential it had, to go with the theme. So I snagged it back out of the bag and started to work on it:
I sprayed it white, and scuffed it up a bit. Then I added some scrapbook paper on the back of each screen to get some nice colour popping through, as well as to hide the little racks inside. I also found the perfect butterfly in the craft section at wal mart to add the finishing touch.
I wanted to put something overtop her bed, so I sprayed a wooden hanger white and hung a dress that she had just outgrown that I liked the look of. I liked how it looked on the wall.
I found this sign at HomeSense and just had to have it for the room as well.
I added 3 smaller pictures to her wall from the shoot as well...it might need more on that part of the wall, but I'll see how it goes
I put a few things on top of the dresser that I thought looked appropriate for the room
I got the vintage camera off the swap n' buy. The books are from our selection. The jewellery holder was from the dollar store, and the box (or whatever you call it) was also from the swap n' buy.
I also got a throw rug from the swap n' buy for free to cover the ugly stains on the carpet, and also picked up this sweet quilt for $20 from the swap n' buy (handy little site). I use one of my props now (a little vintage style white bath basin) for a laundry basket.
I am now addicted to thrifting and a bit of spray paint.
Here is how the room looks now...
It was hard to fit the room into one picture (used my wide angle lens).
I still love it!!

IT's AMAZING. You did a wonderful job. I bet she just loves it. And you photos are beautiful. How on earth do you get all of this done with 6?! I have 3 and can barely keep up!
Thanks for stopping by Sarah and leaving such nice comments! I think the 6 kids thing is all relative. I grew up in a family of 8 kids, so it feels normal, haha! Plus, more hands to help out :)

Thanks for your sweet comment about my caddy's. Thrift stores are so hard for me - I want everything and tend to regret the things I don't get. Your daughters room turned out awesome - I love everything about it!
